UK Driving Students Will Have To Learn To Drive Using GPS To Pass Their Driving Test.

There have been some changes to the UK driving test announced, and learning follow a designated route while using a sat nav is one of them.

“Ensuring the driving test is relevant in the 21st Century – for example, the introduction of sat navs, will go a long way towards doing this”

— Andres Jones – Transport Minister

The other highlight of the practical test is making drivers complete 20 minutes of independent driving rather than the current 10 minutes. On top of that, students will be asked safety questions while they drive.

It’s good to know though that the UK is pushing forward to have an even more realistic assessment of peoples ability to drive unsupervised on the public roads. I would very much like to see America do likewise because the current test is a complete joke. Driving around a couple of blocks and reversing three car lengths in a straight line is no test of someones actual readiness to drive on public roads and highways.
